Smith's Castle is a National Historic Landmark Archaeoloigcal Site and is individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Castle was the site of a 17th century trading post and later became the center of a large 18th century slaveholding plantation and a successful Rhode Island dairy farm in the 19th century.
