In 1871, her 102 acres of land were given to the city of Providence in the name of Roger Williams. A sanctuary from the pressures of urban living, the park doubled as a wildlife refuge. Over the years the park has expanded, and today there are 139 species living in the zoo. The Roger Williams Park and Zoo continues to expand, and remains the most popular attraction in the state.
