Rhode Island's second largest
city, Warwick is a convenient and exciting base from which to enjoy the area's
abundant blessings. Like most other towns and cities in this beautiful, little
state, Warwick boasts a seaside location, its 39 mi (63 km) of coastline wrapping
around attractive Greenwich Bay and offering spectacular views out over Narragansett
Bay, beyond. Needless to say, both locals and visitors like nothing more than
to while away the summer on or in the water, and a plethora of tour operators
offering sightseeing cruises, charters and fishing trips are based here. For landlubbing
fun, Rhode Island's much-loved Goddard
Memorial State Park is home to expansive forest areas, a beach, a performing
arts center and one of Warwick's many golf courses. The Warwick
Museum of Art satisfies hunger for exceptional regional and national art,
while a buffet of restaurants serve up a banquet of local and international cuisine.
Visitors can also admire Warwick's rich history; founded in 1642, the city's heritage
is most apparent in its quaint historic villages, lined with historic homes and
buildings. Pawtuxet
Village is New England's oldest, and was the site of the attack against the
British schooner, HMS Gaspee, in 1772, which essentially kicked off the American
Revolution.
